What is Amharic?

Amharic is a Semitic language spoken primarily in Ethiopia (the country of which it is the official language), with around 26 million speakers. It is the second most spoken Semitic language in the world after Arabic. There are also speakers in Sweden, the US and the UK, as well as Eritrea. It is thought to originate from the Amhara region of Ethiopia.

አማርኛ ምንድን ነው?

አማርኛ በዋነኝነት ኢትዮጵያ ውስጥ (መደበኛው ቋንቋዋ ሆኖ) የሚነገር ሴማዊ ቋንቋ ሲሆን 26 ሚሊዮን ያህል ተናጋሪዎች አሉት። በዓለም ዙሪያ ከዓረብኛ ቀጥሎ በሁለተኛ ደረጃ የሚነገረው ሴማዊ ቋንቋ ነው። በተጨማሪም ስዊድን፣ ዩናይትድ ስቴትስ፣ ዩናይትድ ኪንግድም እንዲሁም ኤርትራ ውስጥ የአማርኛ ተናጋሪዎች አሉ። ኢትዮጵያ ውስጥ ካለው የአማራ ክልል የመጣ ነው ተብሎ ይታስባል።
